The only thing I can say about this Basic book, the Advanced copy and the Flash edition is that be sure that they are actually in stock if you have a time constraint. There was 1 of each copy available when I was ordering and it said "hurry, only 1 copy left" so I got Prime for 2 day shipping. WELLLL, 2 days became 7 even with Prime because it was in a different warehouse I finally pried out of the agent. If you are tight on time, call and speak with customer service to be sure the item really IS in stock and available.

You can save a fortune matting and framing your own photos, posters and other art work. There's a bit of up-front cost getting the tools, but they are rapidly paid for in the cost savings. This book shows what you need and how to do it to enhance the subject matter. The opportunities for customization are practically endless. Lots of great ideas here.

I was frankly surprised to see this book get anything but five-star reviews, but I suppose it depends on where you're coming from. I'm a cabinetmaker, and my wife and I went to Hawaii on our 25th anniversary in 2001. I saw a map of the Sandwich Islands that I loved. Unframed it was $95. Framed in koa wood, it was $795.I told my wife that I could go home, get a book on matting and framing, and for what they were going to charge for the one item, I could frame it and the other things we'd purchased as souvenirs. And that's just what I did. Interestingly enough, koa wood is very expensive. At that time I paid $26 a board foot for it. I purchased two boards which cost me $700, but from them I made six frames. I have no idea of what the price would be today.I spent over a week going through this book. I studied it like I was preparing for a test, taking notes and so forth. Personally, I found it enormously helpful, but perhaps it was geared to people like me. I do know that I have just purchased a second copy which I mean to give to a friend of ours. She is a fledgling photographer who is starting to get some notice. However, she has her photos matted, and the person doing the job is terrible. This book will set her straight.I can honestly say that I have gotten raves for my matting over the years. And I learned every bit of it from this book. I like the mat cutter he used and got one for myself. It's easy to work with, but again, as a cabinetmaker I do much more complex things, so I may not be a fair judge of it. I just know it works for me, and I would recommend it to anyone starting out in the field. As for the matting, there is a whole method to which mats to use and how to use them, all of which I got from this book. Finally, for those who may not be able to make their own molding, the author sets forth several methods of work.Again, what works for me may not work for others. But since I was getting this book for a friend, I thought I'd give my two cents on the subject.

This book covers the details for framing, matting and finishing framed artwork. Also, some framing issues are covered and it does a practical explanation of how to put it all together. It is well written.

This book has taught me so much when making picture frames. I get more complements on my frames than the photos taken. When people learn I make my own they usually ask if I could make one for them!Book was in good condition and easy to follow directions!

I was looking to acquire enough information to start framing a couple of items, and so wanted a book that would discuss the basics in detail. This book takes a more general introductory approach, including chapters on woodworking basics and various types of framing jobs--ideal for someone with no background looking to start framing as a hobby or business. If you have some woodworking background and know what type of framing you want to do, you should probably look elsewhere. However, if you want an introduction to the overall practice of framing, the types of tools and skills required, and are ready to pursue other information for deeper coverage, it's a good starting place.

I originally bought this book in Y2K.... 2000. At the time the book was current, but the steps covered in the book still hold true, but not the materials to use. Get mounting hinges that include an antibacterial adhesive. I myself have the Logan Framer's Edge 650 mounted mat cutting machine. If you are looking for a book written less than 11 or 12 years ago, look elsewhere. Look for Logan's book or other author instead.

I purchased this book based on the positive comments left by the other reviewers here. This is a wonderful book. Possibly the best how-to-book on any subject I have read. The text is easy to follow and the pictures used to clarify the text were obviously selected with a great deal of care. I can not stress the choice of photographs used to illustrate this book enough, they are superb. The book explains each process in a systematic manner. You are never left with the feeling that something is missing. From the table of contents to the index, the quality of this book comes through. The address, telephone numbers, email, and description of services for 85 different suppliers are listed. It even covers the economics of purchasing ready-made frames at discount prices. This is truly a comprehensive work on framing for the novice and intermediate framer. This is one book purchase you will never regret.

Quick. Old but good info

This book covers just about everything on framing, but it doesn't really give you a feel for the whole process of framing. The topics really don't build well on each other and there's nowhere to get an overall perspective on doing a complete framing job. The author rightfully is trying not to be too prescriptive but he just presents so many options that you never get a good feel for what you should do. If you are into making frames though I think that part of the book works pretty well.

I expected this book would be a sales pitch but it was jam packed with step by step advice to create a sales webinar, generate more leads, and close high ticket coaching clients. Even as someone who doesn’t sell coaching, I felt there were so many things that were applicable, that I’ve forgotten in marketing or I’ve gotten lazy about. And, definitely some new ideas too. A bit surprised to say I highly recommend this to anyone selling online - especially if you do or want to do webinars.

Russell is great at explaining the basics of sales, storytelling, buyer psychology, and webinars. This book would be dangerous in the hands of the wrong people! A lot of it is manipulation that you can rationalize as “providing incredible value”. I’m not skeptical of the sales tactics. 100% they will work! I am skeptical about the author’s influences. He’s chums with Perry Belcher. He was notorious for online fraud (supplement industry). He scammed millions of people. Russell works with Frank Kerns to, Tony Robbins’ Internet marketer. Pure snake oil there. I can’t figure out why such a nice guy like Russell keeps this company and employs their online tactics. It’s what he teaches.There are plenty of ways to get rich. You have to ask if what you’re doing is truly ethical. News flash: not everyone that uses ClickFunnels is successful--that's what 's implied though. But if you incentivize them to sell it (generous affiliate program) and highlight the minority of them they earn the Gold Record trophies, this company will only get bigger. Add a compelling sales spiel to the mix and that's online gold. But do we really need all of that? I hope people with a proven product that truly does help people find this book. I hope philanthropies find this book. I just don't want wannabe's who only have their eye on money and materialism find this book. But that's the nature of free enterprise.

But since most of his products are information products (minus Click Funnels), it makes sense that he gives out so much information. It may seem a bit odd to have the main character be a dwarf girl and then follow her through the twists and turns of her unusual personal life from World War I into the fifties; however, the novel held my interest as it depicts not only the protagonist's struggles--with family, friendship, love-- but a lot of struggles, adjustments, and capitulations of a small town near Dusseldorf with many (mostly minor) characters who interact in significant, but some times brutal ways with our Nazi-resistant dwarf and her World War I-handicapped father. There's also love, almost love, friendship, betrayal, sex, despair and hope. I'd say it is the sense of the town and the great variety of characters that kept me interested. It's something like a developed catalogue of possible reactions to the storms and stresses of the social era, but balanced with a dwarf's keen sense of knowing and being able to tell stories--partly in self-defense, partly out of great compassion. She also becomes deeply involved in helping Jews and other german war-resistors evade the clutches of the Nazis.

It is a book of historical fiction I have known for a long time, have recommended to a number of friends. the recently bought copy was a gift for a friend who is quite interested in understanding the years of the Nazi Regime in Germany.I myself grew up in Germany in those years. I find Hegi's book very well researched; its descriptions of everyday life in those years are congruent with my experiences. I find the protagonist's commentary on what she observes to be very insightful. Again, I highly recommend the book to anyone wishing to understand the years preceding the Nazi Regime and the years of WW II, especially in terms of the everyday life n a small town environment.

There are books, and then there are books that leave an impact. There are writers, and then there are writers that teach you how to better see and embrace the nuances of our lives. This book and this writer accomplish that—beautifully. Barely a page goes by without wanting to stop and reflect on how the author was able to so succinctly snap into focus moments that we so casually experience, but really do not stop to analyze. I grew as a person as a result of reading this book. I gave it four out of five stars because I was not intensely connected to the setting, but also, I could not put it down as I marveled at the author's clarity and precision in bringing the richness of the tiniest details of the story, truly, to life.

Stones From the River held my interest from the first page. I bought it because I've wondered about life in Nazi Germany for the ordinary citizens during the war. How many times have we heard people say "They must have known what was going on. Why didn't they do something?" Trudi's story about her village and the people living there offered the best explanation I've seen. The main reason, of course, is that they were suffering deprivation and were terrified. They never knew if they would be arrested because they said something that could be construed as offensive. People disappeared and if they came back they were broken. Family members couldn't be trusted. There was little food. People were desperate. Rumors were rampant but nobody knew what was true. Information about the camps was sparse and filtered by the government. Most of the camps were far from the ordinary everyday citizens. How could they really know what was going on? The story of Trudi's life as a dwarf was also interesting. Hegi took us into her mind and experiences as someone who was "different" in a time and place where that was especially difficult. The reader has a look into her heart and soul and understands her rage and insecurities. She longs for a husband and family and knows that she won't have them. Her stories about her fellow villagers give her the power and control she needs to survive. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a curiosity about ordinary people in extraordinary times.

I'm faced with a dilemma in trying to read this book. First, it's a point of pride for me to always finish a book. On the other hand I've started to dread my reading time since it means having to plow through this excruciatingly dull book. I haven't been able to care about any of the pale characters and have actually started to dread my reading time. None of the characters come to life, not even Trudi, the one we're supposed to care most about. The book starts with Trudi 3 years old but sounding more like an adult. Some say the description of the Holocaust is worth the struggle to get through the rest of ithe book but I'm not convinced. Is there anyone who reads ( or watches tv or goes to the movies for that matter) who doesn't know the horrors of the Holocaust? I've made it to page 60 but another 400 pages of this is a daunting prospect. I think my reading hours would be better spent on something else!

The fact that the point of view is essentially that of the main character, a female dwarf living in a small German village during Hitler's rise (and fall), affords the author a chance to present a different take on the period. As characters find their paths through the minefield that was Nazi Germany, the reader can imagine how it was possible for such horrific events to occur. While the period's history is well and faithfully represented, the inclusion of some lesser known details helps to enhance one's knowledge; however, it is the villagers' stories that are the novel's focus, with the war as a backdrop for the most part. I recommend the novel for its heart-rending look at the cost of being "different", on both the personal and national level.
