Goodrich herself!This is not a book in my opinion, rather, a buddy whom from the start (Page 1 – I, _____________, commit to completing my PMP exam by______________.), serves to excite you about your journey and propel you into Project Management.A one stop shop, the PMP Exam Study Guide offers information on the credentialing process itself, with tools to assist in the application process, what to expect when you are expecting to exam, from the experience itself to managing anxiety and believe me, as a certified PMI professional, with multiple certifications, I can confirm the anxiety exists! Reading about what you may experience from the perspective of anxiety and how best to work through it, is one of many golden nuggets offered in this Guide.I believe the PMP Exam Study Guide is suited towards beginners as well as seasoned project management professionals based upon the following:LAYOUT: The PMP Exam Study Guide is laid out in a thoughtful and strategic manner from the initial steps of the journey, to the Practice Exams, through to the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. I found this PMP Exam Study Guide from Belinda S. Goodrich to be a very well written and extremely well structured guide to help the reader review the extensive body of project management knowledge covered in "digestible" amounts. This guide of course maps to the PMBOK framework, chapters and concepts well, but does so in way that makes the (sometimes dry) subject matter readable in segments. The guide breaks down concepts and sub-topics in a manner that none seem overly long. This, coupled with the author's use of examples in shaded "blocks", "Belinda's Hints" to highlight ways to think about key topics, the ITTO tables (of Inputs Tools & Techniques, and Outputs), diagrams and pictures to augment understanding, the segmenting of concepts/sub-topics, and exercises to test understanding ... all contribute to the guide's usability, readability and effectiveness. In addition, each chapter ends with both Review Questions (and Answer Guide with explanations) and Vocabulary Review tests. Great effort is made to relate the material to the reader's ability to pass the PMP exam. I really like the (often humorous) mnemonics Belinda uses to help you memorize a key concept or complex formula. The author also provides insights into what the reader should attempt to memorize versus understand in relation to the concept or framework of Knowledge Areas and Process Groups (the ITTO's are a good example of this advice not to have to memorize). The guide also provides significant insight into the exam experience and recommended approach - as well as a very useful approach to creating your "dump sheet" for the exam. Most importantly, I find the approach to practice tests to be excellent - segmented/smaller initial practice exams (four of them) leading to a full 200 question "Final" Practice Exam. In this manner, you can measure your understanding along the way and build upon your mastery of the material as well as your confidence. The questions are similar to the type of questions on the actual PMP exam - and you get access to mock exams online for 90-days so you can retake them as needed. In, closing, I really like the study guide and see it as an effective tool to facilitate your preparation for the PMP exam (recommend coupling with study group review of chapters, the PMBOK, and a boot-camp - if you can). I know firsthand the effectiveness of Belinda's approach, as I was lucky enough to have her as instructor for the PMP Boot Camp course I attended - we were prepared for the exam! The only improvement I might recommend would be to add some color to the body of the already quite readable guide.
